Use case

Taobao and Tmall product data for sourcing and price tracking

Turn Taobao and Tmall product links into JSON with price, promotions, shop, specs, sales and variants, for sourcing, cross-border pricing and market research.

TaobaoTmalllovelyjsonitems[0]"title": "Insulated camping mug…"price": "89.00""promotions": "Spend 199, save 20""shop": "Mountain Goods Flagsh…"sales": "12,000+""variants": 6

If you source from China, sell the same products cross-border, or research what Chinese shoppers buy, the Taobao or Tmall product page is where the answer is: the real price after promotions, which shop sells it, how many people bought it and which variants exist. Those pages are in Chinese and change daily. Lovely Router reads them for you. Send product links, get one JSON object per product, pay per product from a prepaid balance. Call it from a script, a price-monitoring job or an AI agent with one API key.

Hand it to your AI agent

Copy this prompt into Claude Code, Cursor, Codex or any coding agent. It tells the agent where the docs are and how to use your API key.

Taobao and Tmall product data for sourcing and price tracking. Use the Lovely Router data tools: each returns JSON and is billed per result.

- Docs (read first): https://lovelyrouter.com/docs/tools/find.md and https://lovelyrouter.com/docs/tools/run.md
- Plan first: POST https://lovelyrouter.com/v1/tools/suggest with `{"task": "<my task in plain words>"}` (free). It returns the tools to run in order, each with an example `input`, the `input_required` fields, an estimated cost and a ready-made `run` request. Replace the example values with my task's; if a field is unclear, read the tool with GET https://lovelyrouter.com/v1/tools/<id>. To browse instead, POST https://lovelyrouter.com/v1/tools/discover searches the catalog.
- Show me the plan and its estimated cost (`total_est_cost_usd`) before running anything large.
- Run: POST https://lovelyrouter.com/v1/tools/<id>/run with `{"input": {...}, "max_results": N}`. A 200 has the finished run with `items`; a 202 means it is still running, so poll the `poll` path until `status` is `succeeded`, `failed`, `timed_out` or `stopped`.
- Only delivered results are billed. Keep max_results small on the first run, check the output, then scale up.
- If you support MCP, connect https://lovelyrouter.com/mcp instead (Streamable HTTP, same key; https://lovelyrouter.com/docs/tools/mcp.md) and use suggest_tools, get_tool and run_tool.
- Auth: read my API key from the LOVELY_API_KEY environment variable and send it as `Authorization: Bearer $LOVELY_API_KEY`. Never print or commit the key. If it is not set, ask me to create one at https://lovelyrouter.com/app/keys.
- Billing is prepaid: every call is charged to my balance, so test with a small request before running anything large.
- Every docs page is plain Markdown; the full index is https://lovelyrouter.com/llms.txt.

My task: <the inputs (links, keywords or accounts) and how many results you need>

How it works

010203
  1. Copy the link of each Taobao or Tmall item you care about: competitors' listings, a supplier's catalog, the products on your shortlist.

  2. Run the tool with a cap

    Send the links to POST /v1/tools/taobao-product/run with max_results. The run holds its maximum cost from your balance and returns the products as JSON.

  3. Store and compare

    Save each run with a timestamp. Compare with the last run to catch price drops, new promotions, sales growth and variants that sell out.

02

Get a Taobao product with one request

Taobao and Tmall product details takes a list of product links in items. One link is one product, and one run reads up to 50:

curl https://lovelyrouter.com/v1/tools/taobao-product/run \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $LOVELY_API_KEY" \
  -H "content-type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "input": {
      "items": ["https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=1003783113480"]
    },
    "max_results": 1
  }'

A run still going after 60 seconds returns 202; Run a tool shows how to poll.

03

What each product holds

Field groupWhat you get
IdentityTitle, brand, product link
PriceThe listed price and the promotions attached to it
SellerThe shop that sells it
ContentImages and the specification table
DemandSales figures shown on the page
OptionsVariants (colour, size, bundle)

The text comes back as the page shows it, in Chinese. Ask a model to translate titles and specs in the same job, or to turn the spec table into the attributes your catalog uses.

Recipes

Watch a competitor's price and promotions

Each morning, run the tool on the links of the products you compete with. Store price and promotions per product, and alert when the price drops or a new promotion appears.

Shortlist suppliers by demand

Take the links of 40 candidate products, run them in one call, sort by the sales shown, and read the specs of the top ten.

Price a cross-border listing

Pull the Taobao price and variants of a product, add shipping and your margin, and compare with what the same item sells for on AliExpress or Amazon.

Build a catalog

Feed product links from a supplier into the tool, translate titles and specs with a model, and write the result to your store's import file.

Research a category

Collect a few dozen top products from a category you are scouting, then ask a model to cluster them by price tier, material and selling points.

Prefer plain words? Connect the MCP server and tell Claude Code or Cursor: "Read these 25 Taobao links from links.txt, translate the titles to English, and give me a table of price, shop and variants. Set max_results to 25."

05

Pair it with other China sources

Taobao shows retail prices. Wholesale, resale and cross-border prices tell the rest of the story:

  • 1688-products searches the wholesale market by keyword, with tiered prices, minimum order and supplier.
  • alibaba-products lists Alibaba.com suppliers and products with price ranges and verification.
  • xianyu-listings shows what second-hand goods sell for on China's largest resale market.
  • aliexpress-products shows the same kind of product priced for export.

For several marketplaces in one job, see e-commerce intelligence.

06

What you pay

You pay per product: starting a run holds its maximum cost, the per-call fee plus the per-product fee times max_results, and the run settles to what it returned. The rest of the hold goes back to your balance. A run that fails or times out pays only for the products it delivered, and a run refused at the start costs nothing.

Checking 100 products a day is billed as 100 products a day. There is no subscription and no monthly minimum: top up from $5, and one balance pays for tools and models. The card above shows today's price; pricing lists every tool.

Frequently asked questions

?
Can I get Tmall products as well as Taobao?+

Yes. The tool reads both Taobao and Tmall product pages. Pass the product link as you copied it from either site.

How many products can one run read?+

Up to 50 links per run. For a longer list, start several runs; up to 10 can be in progress on your account at once.

Are the prices in English and dollars?+

No. Titles, specs and promotions come back as the page shows them, in Chinese, with the price as listed. Translate and convert in your own code, or ask a model to do it in the same pipeline.

Do I need a Taobao account or a proxy?+

No. You send links and an API key. Nothing about the Chinese site, accounts or proxies is on your side.

Can I search Taobao by keyword?+

This tool reads products by link. To search a market by keyword, use 1688 for wholesale goods or Xianyu for second-hand ones.

Do I need a subscription?+

No. You add credit to a prepaid balance and each run draws it down. Failed runs pay only for the results they delivered, and nothing renews automatically.

Researching a whole market rather than single products? See e-commerce intelligence, and the rest of the tool catalog.

One prepaid key for models, data and agents

No subscription. Top up, use what you need, see every charge in your logs.
