The best customer research is rarely in a survey. It is in the comments under a thread where people compare products, complain about a price or explain why they switched. Reading a thread with 800 comments is slow, and copying it by hand loses who replied to whom. Lovely Router returns the whole thread. Send thread links, get one JSON object per post or comment, pay per item from a prepaid balance.

Hand it to your AI agent

Copy this prompt into Claude Code, Cursor, Codex or any coding agent. It tells the agent where the docs are and how to use your API key.

Reddit comment data for customer research and objection mining. Use the Lovely Router data tools: each returns JSON and is billed per result.

- Docs (read first): https://lovelyrouter.com/docs/tools/find.md and https://lovelyrouter.com/docs/tools/run.md
- Plan first: POST https://lovelyrouter.com/v1/tools/suggest with `{"task": "<my task in plain words>"}` (free). It returns the tools to run in order, each with an example `input`, the `input_required` fields, an estimated cost and a ready-made `run` request. Replace the example values with my task's; if a field is unclear, read the tool with GET https://lovelyrouter.com/v1/tools/<id>. To browse instead, POST https://lovelyrouter.com/v1/tools/discover searches the catalog.
- Show me the plan and its estimated cost (`total_est_cost_usd`) before running anything large.
- Run: POST https://lovelyrouter.com/v1/tools/<id>/run with `{"input": {...}, "max_results": N}`. A 200 has the finished run with `items`; a 202 means it is still running, so poll the `poll` path until `status` is `succeeded`, `failed`, `timed_out` or `stopped`.
- Only delivered results are billed. Keep max_results small on the first run, check the output, then scale up.
- If you support MCP, connect https://lovelyrouter.com/mcp instead (Streamable HTTP, same key; https://lovelyrouter.com/docs/tools/mcp.md) and use suggest_tools, get_tool and run_tool.
- Auth: read my API key from the LOVELY_API_KEY environment variable and send it as `Authorization: Bearer $LOVELY_API_KEY`. Never print or commit the key. If it is not set, ask me to create one at https://lovelyrouter.com/app/keys.
- Billing is prepaid: every call is charged to my balance, so test with a small request before running anything large.
- Every docs page is plain Markdown; the full index is https://lovelyrouter.com/llms.txt.

How it works

010203
  1. Find the threads

    Search Reddit yourself or with the search tool, and keep the links of the threads that matter: comparisons, complaints, recommendations.

  2. Run the tool with a cap

    Send the links to POST /v1/tools/reddit-comments/run with max_results. The run holds its maximum cost from your balance and returns the post and comments as JSON.

  3. Analyze the language

    Group comments by score and depth, then ask a model to pull out recurring objections, the words people use and the alternatives they name.

Get a thread's comments with one request

Get Reddit comments takes thread links in urls, and the comment cap per thread in maxCommentsPerPost:

curl https://lovelyrouter.com/v1/tools/reddit-comments/run \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $LOVELY_API_KEY" \
  -H "content-type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "input": {
        "urls": [
          "https://www.reddit.com/r/nycrail/comments/1x0x0hw/i_made_a_free_browser_train_sim_of_the_nyc_subway/"
        ],
        "maxCommentsPerPost": 100
      },
    "max_results": 100
  }'

maxCommentsPerPost is an output cap, not Reddit's total, and a run can return fewer comments when public access is limited. A run still going after 60 seconds returns 202; Run a tool shows how to poll.

Reply depth shows who is answering whom, so a model can tell a top-level opinion from a rebuttal. You are responsible for using people's data lawfully, including privacy and anti-spam rules where you operate.

Recipes

Collect objections

Take the ten biggest threads that compare your product with alternatives, pull the comments, and ask a model to list the reasons people give for not choosing you.

Write copy in customers' words

Pull comments from a thread where buyers describe what they love, and keep the phrases with the highest scores.

Validate a feature request

Run the threads where users ask for a feature and count how many comments agree, with their scores as weight.

Check a launch reaction

An hour and a day after you post a launch thread, run it again and compare tone and score.

Track a recurring complaint

Store comments from the same support-style thread every week and watch whether new complaints appear.

Prefer plain words? Connect the MCP server and tell Claude Code or Cursor: "Read the comments of the three Reddit threads in threads.txt, up to 200 each, and give me the five most repeated complaints with a quote and score for each. Set max_results to 600."

06

What you pay

You pay per item: starting a run holds its maximum cost, the per-call fee plus the per-item fee times max_results, and the run settles to what it returned. The rest of the hold goes back to your balance. A run that fails or times out pays only for the items it delivered, and a run refused at the start costs nothing.

Reading 500 comments is billed as 500 items. There is no subscription and no monthly minimum: top up from $5, and one balance pays for tools and models. The card above shows today's price; pricing lists every tool.

Frequently asked questions

?
What counts as one item?+

The post and each comment each count as one item, and you cap the total with max_results.

Does it read replies to replies?+

Comments come with their reply depth, so nested replies are included as long as they fit under your cap.

Will I get every comment in a huge thread?+

Not always. The cap is an output limit, and public access or time limits can return fewer comments than the thread has.

Can I search Reddit by keyword with this tool?+

No, it reads threads by link. Use Reddit search to find them first.

Do I need a subscription?+

No. You add credit to a prepaid balance and each run draws it down. Failed runs pay only for the results they delivered, and nothing renews automatically.
