Xiaohongshu (小红书, also called RedNote or RED), Douyin and Weibo are where Chinese consumers discover products, review them and talk about brands, mostly in Chinese. Lovely Router lets you search all three with an API call, much like a Douyin or Weibo API of your own: send a keyword and get notes, videos and posts back as JSON, billed per result. It's built for brands and agencies doing market research on China, whether you're outside the country planning a launch or inside it tracking competitors and KOLs.

Hand it to your AI agent

Copy this prompt into Claude Code, Cursor, Codex or any coding agent. It tells the agent where the docs are and how to use your API key.

Research Xiaohongshu (RedNote) notes, Douyin videos and Weibo posts for brand and market research. Search with Chinese keywords; translate what you report into my language. Use the Lovely Router data tools: each returns JSON and is billed per result.

- Docs (read first): https://lovelyrouter.com/docs/tools/find.md and https://lovelyrouter.com/docs/tools/run.md
- Plan first: POST https://lovelyrouter.com/v1/tools/suggest with `{"task": "<my task in plain words>"}` (free). It returns the tools to run in order, each with an example `input`, the `input_required` fields, an estimated cost and a ready-made `run` request. Replace the example values with my task's; if a field is unclear, read the tool with GET https://lovelyrouter.com/v1/tools/<id>. To browse instead, POST https://lovelyrouter.com/v1/tools/discover searches the catalog.
- Show me the plan and its estimated cost (`total_est_cost_usd`) before running anything large.
- Run: POST https://lovelyrouter.com/v1/tools/<id>/run with `{"input": {...}, "max_results": N}`. A 200 has the finished run with `items`; a 202 means it is still running, so poll the `poll` path until `status` is `succeeded`, `failed`, `timed_out` or `stopped`.
- Only delivered results are billed. Keep max_results small on the first run, check the output, then scale up.
- If you support MCP, connect https://lovelyrouter.com/mcp instead (Streamable HTTP, same key; https://lovelyrouter.com/docs/tools/mcp.md) and use suggest_tools, get_tool and run_tool.
- Auth: read my API key from the LOVELY_API_KEY environment variable and send it as `Authorization: Bearer $LOVELY_API_KEY`. Never print or commit the key. If it is not set, ask me to create one at https://lovelyrouter.com/app/keys.
- Billing is prepaid: every call is charged to my balance, so test with a small request before running anything large.
- Every docs page is plain Markdown; the full index is https://lovelyrouter.com/llms.txt.

How it works

010203
  1. Choose keywords

Search the words your customers use: 露营 (camping), 咖啡 (coffee), a product category or a brand name. Douyin and Weibo also take English queries and brand names.

  2. Send the keyword to POST /v1/tools/{id}/run with a max_results cap. The run holds its maximum cost and returns the results as JSON.

  3. Read, translate, summarize

Results come back in their original language. Send them to a model with the same key to translate, summarize or tag them in English.

Search Xiaohongshu notes with one request

Xiaohongshu search runs one operation per call. search_notes returns notes for a keyword; this run asks for the 20 most-liked camping notes:

curl https://lovelyrouter.com/v1/tools/xiaohongshu-search/run \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $LOVELY_API_KEY" \
  -H "content-type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "input": {"operation": "search_notes", "keyword": "露营", "sort_type": "like_count_descending"},
    "max_results": 20
  }'

Each note is one item in items, in the tool's own format; run a small search first and look at the fields before you build on them. A run still going after 60 seconds returns 202; Run a tool shows how to poll.

Douyin works the same way. This run returns up to 50 of the most-liked coffee videos from the past week:

cURL
curl https://lovelyrouter.com/v1/tools/douyin-search/run \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $LOVELY_API_KEY" \
  -H "content-type: application/json" \
  -d '{"input": {"keywords": ["咖啡"], "sort": "most_liked", "publishTime": "one_week"}, "max_results": 50}'

What each tool returns

Xiaohongshu (RedNote). xiaohongshu-search returns notes for a keyword with operation set to search_notes. sort_type orders them by general, time_descending, or most likes, comments or saves (like_count_descending, comment_count_descending, collect_count_descending). Its input schema also lists other operations, among them get_note_detail and get_note_comments (with a note_id), get_user_info and list_user_notes (with a user_id), and search_products (with a keyword); choose one and fill only the fields it uses. Field descriptions are in Chinese and English.

Douyin. Douyin search returns videos for one or more keywords. Chinese, English, hashtags, brand names and emoji all work. Each keyword is searched on its own and duplicates across keywords are removed; a realistic keyword yields a few hundred unique videos. Sort by general, most_liked or latest, and limit publishTime to one_day, one_week or half_year.

Weibo. Weibo search runs one operation per call:

OperationInputReturns
searchWeibokeyword (Chinese, English or mixed), maxPagesPosts for the keyword, about 14 per page
userDetailuserIdFollowers, following, statuses count, verified reason, location, gender, bio
userFans, userFollowersuserId, maxPagesThe user's fans or followers list, about 20 users per page

The numeric userId is in a profile URL (weibo.com/u/{ID}) and in the userId or user_id field of search results.

Recipes

Test a product idea before a launch

Run xiaohongshu-search with your category in Chinese and "sort_type": "like_count_descending". Ask a model to list, in English, the brands, price points and complaints that come up in the top notes.

Find KOLs on Weibo

Run searchWeibo with your brand or category and "maxPages": 3, take the userId values that recur, then run userDetail on each for followers and verified reason.

Track a trend on Douyin

Run douyin-search every week with "publishTime": "one_week" and "sort": "most_liked" for a few related keywords, and compare which videos lead each week.

Compare China with the rest of the world

Search the same topic in English with TikTok search and a location such as "US", and compare formats and hooks with the top Douyin videos.

Fill gaps with web search

Web search takes a lang:zh operator to find Chinese-language articles and news, at $0.0009 per search.

Personal data

Creator profiles and follower lists are personal data in many places. You are responsible for using what you collect lawfully, wherever you and the people in the data are; see the Acceptable Use Policy.

With the MCP server connected, one prompt does the first recipe: "Search Xiaohongshu for the 30 most-liked notes about 露营 and Weibo for posts about 露营装备, then summarize in English which brands and products people mention most. Set max_results on every run."

05

What you pay

Each run bills per result: a note, a video or a post, plus a per-call fee on Weibo; the cards above show today's prices. Starting a run holds its maximum cost, per-call fee plus per-result fee times max_results, and settles to what it returned. A run that fails or times out pays only for the results it delivered, and a run refused at the start costs nothing.

There's no subscription. Top up from $5, and the same balance pays for the model that translates and summarizes. See pricing for every tool.

Frequently asked questions

?
Can I search in Chinese?+

Yes. Douyin keywords can be Chinese, English, hashtags, brand names or emoji, and Weibo takes Chinese, English and mixed queries. The Xiaohongshu tool's own example searches 露营 (camping).

Is Xiaohongshu the same as RedNote?+

Yes. Xiaohongshu (小红书) is also known as RedNote, RED or XHS. The xiaohongshu-search tool is a Xiaohongshu API that searches its notes, and its input schema uses all of these names.

Do I need a Chinese phone number or an account on these platforms?+

No account on Xiaohongshu, Douyin or Weibo is part of the input. You call all three tools with your Lovely Router API key and a JSON input of keywords or IDs.

Can I get creator profiles and comments, not just search results?+

On Weibo, yes: userDetail returns a profile, and userFans and userFollowers return a user's fan and follower lists. The Xiaohongshu tool's schema lists operations for a note's details and comments by note_id and a user's profile and notes by user_id, chosen with the operation field.

Do results come back in English?+

No, they come back in the original language. Translate or summarize them with any chat model through the same key. For Chinese-speaking teams, GET /v1/tools?lang=zh returns the catalog's tool names and descriptions in Chinese.

How is it billed?+

Per result returned, from a prepaid balance, plus a per-call fee on the Weibo tool. A run never costs more than its per-call fee plus the per-result price times max_results.
